About Us
-
Doykayt דאָיִקייט ( pronounced: doy-kite )
[ alternatively transliterated: doikait, doykait, doikeyt ]
Doykayt is a Yiddish word which can be translated literally to ‘here-ness’.
This term is used to describe the importance of the here and now, and has historically been used by diasporic jews to center life in the diaspora- rather than the “thereness” of Zionism.
-
Doykayt Kansas City (Doykayt KC, or just Doykayt) is a pluralist, diasporic synagogue for Jews in the Kansas City Metro. Our founding members created Doykayt KC when they felt a strong desire for a meaningful antizionist Jewish experience through community and ritual, while existing in the diaspora. It is our intention to make a home where dedicated, diverse, diasporic Judaism can thrive.
-
Doykayt KC started meeting 5781(2020), finally officially becoming established in the spring of 5783(2023).
-
Doykayt KC is local to the Kansas City Metro area, with members from all across the country.
